What kind of a day are you going to have today? If asked this question first thing in the morning, many of us might respond, “We’ll see how things go.” But God suggests a different response from us.

In Psalm 18:24 David writes, “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Then in Philippians 4:4 Paul writes, “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” Both of these men faced great stresses and pressures in life as they served God, but they knew a truth that is repeated throughout the Bible: The day we’re living in doesn’t determine our level of joy. We determine the joy we will live in today!

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord, you have a personal relationship with God and you can enter every day with joy, strength, and a high expectation of what God is going to do in and through you. You can live above the circumstances and trials that come your way. You can choose to smile and be an encouragement to others. Don’t let the circumstances that come your way today decide how your life will be. Choose to make today a great day!
